About Us

Hālau Hula Ka’Uhane O Ka Pakipika is an esteemed Polynesian dance school that has been guided since 1999 by the respected vision of Kumu Paddy Kauhane.

For over 20 years, Kumu Paddy Kauhane has taught hundreds of students in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada. Collaborating with world-renowned Kumu Hula, and under the mentorship of Blaine Kamalani Kia, Kumu Hula and Director of the Lauakea Foundation, our students learn from some of the top teachers in the world.

In 2010 Paddy Kauhane moved back home, to Hawai’i, but she continues to mentor and teach our leaders and haumana, and govern the society as a Board Director. Our lineage carries on through Paddy’s family and our Po’o, Ho’opa’a & Alaka’i who remain in Maple Ridge and run the society & hālau today.

The Spirit of the Pacific Cultural Society

Hālau KaʻUhane is governed by The Spirit of the Pacific Cultural Society (SPCS). A Canadian Non-Profit Organization with a goal to build a legacy that will live beyond this generation and provide opportunities for future students for many, many generations to come.

Our hālau is based on the unceded traditional territory of the Stó:lō, Semiahmoo, W̱SÁNEĆ, Hul'qumi'num Treaty Group, Kwantlen, Katzie, and Stz'uminus First Nations’ in what is now referred to as Maple Ridge, British Columbia. These lands have a unique and rich cultural heritage with strong ties to the Native Hawaiian people that must be preserved and perpetuated. SPCS’s mandate is to build a foundation that will support Halau Hula Ka’Uhane O Ka Pakipika, and other Polynesian groups, so this heritage and culture is recognized and upheld forever.

Our mission is to perpetuate, promote and preserve the unique traditions and cultural heritage of the Hula and other Polynesian dances
