The Spirit of the Pacific Cultural Society
Hālau Hula Ka'Uhane O Ka Pākīpika
E Komo Mai - Welcome

“E ‘onipaʻa i ka ‘imi naʻauao... Be steadfast in the seeking of knowledge”
Rooted in the heart of Maple Ridge, BC, the Spirit of the Pacific Cultural Society (SPCS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich cultural heritage of Hawaiʻi and the broader Polynesian nations.
Inspired by our kūpuna and the legacy of early Hawaiian settlers in the region, we offer a range of cultural programs—from our respected hālau (hula school), Hālau Hula KaʻUhane O Ka Pākīpika, to award-winning Tahitian and Māori dance classes.
Through traditional dance, craft, and educational events, we invite our community to experience, celebrate, and learn about the vibrant traditions that connect us across oceans and generations.
Generations of Aloha
25 years ago, newly minted Kumu Paddy Kauhane fulfilled her beloved Uncle’s wish and opened her own hula school – the Hālau Hula Ka’Uhane O Ka Pākīpika – in her hometown of Maple Ridge, BC. Today, her school has over a hundred students and is lovingly run by family members, longtime friends, students-turned-teachers, and volunteers, with Kumu Paddy and her Kumu, Blaine Kamalani Kia in O’ahu as a guiding star to ensure that we maintain Hawaii’s traditions in good faith.
This year’s ho’ike (show/exhibition), “Generations of Aloha”, aims to shine a light on our many teachers, both past and present. It is a love letter to all those who instilled in us the values of hard work, knowledge-seeking, respect, and aloha. It will tell the story of how Hālau Hula Ka’Uhane O Ka Pākīpika came to be, and to whom we owe our thanks.
With our dedicated students and musicians and dancers on loan from Kumu Blaine for this special occasion, audience members can expect many delightful dances to stir the heart and soul.
